Our Vision

Educators are innovators.

The Astoria Oregon Public Library Foundation is a nonprofit, community based organization with the purpose of creating resources to support the Astoria Public Library. The Foundation is managed by a volunteer board of directors which is charged with generating funds, expanding resources, and informing the public for the benefit of the Library. All contributions are tax deductible to the full extent of the law.

Currently the Foundation is involved in developing the following areas of support for the Library:

  • Establishing itself as a permanent institution allied with but separate from the government of the City of Astoria

  • Building local, state-wide, and national strategies to fund the renovation of the Library according to the Astoria Library Renovation Study prepared by Ruth Metz Associates dated October 9, 2013.

  • Creating and implementing a strategy of public outreach and awareness.

In 2013, the City of Astoria commissioned a renovation study of the Astoria Library.  The study had four goals: needs assessment, building program, cost estimate, and fund-raising strategies.  Ruth Metz Associates (RMA), a library consulting firm based in Portland, conducted the study.  This study was preliminary to any future architectural planning and design.

The City, library leadership, and consultant team held several public meetings and conducted a Needs Assessment Survey, seeking community input regarding the library service needs and ideas of Astoria residents, current and anticipated. We are happy to share materials presented to the community during the Renovation Study as well as the Final Report for the Astoria Library Renovation Study.
